Why was the decision to drop the Atomic Bombs made? What were the other choices to ending the war? what would have been required by the Allies in terms of material and lives to finally get Japan to end the war? Can I keep modern morals out of the situation that happen 64 years ago?

I may need to narrow down my subject. As I read more information about the reasons why the decision to drop the two Atomic Bombs was made, I am finding myself looking at the reasons why the Americans made the decisions instead of taking into account the Japanese account of the historic eventlooking. I am going to have to find more sources from the anti bomb crowd to be fair to both sides.

My topic for my Research paper is going to be about the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan during WWII. I have been interested in WWII since I was a young boy and know quite alot about the war against Germany, but did not devote much time or effort towards the Pacific war.

I don't know too much about the war against Japan, but it was a brutal war. The Japanese would not give up with out a very hard fight and would often fight to the death. Two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan before they surrendered, ending WWII.

I want to explore both the pros and cons of the decision to use nuclear weapons. I want to be able to understand the decision and to see why the Japanese kept fighting even though they could see the war was lost. I also want to know why it took two atomic weapons for them to finially see that the war was lost.
